Colchester Garrison is one of the largest modular building projects in the UK.

Britspace Modular Buildings worked closely with Sir Robert McAlpine, a leading UK building and civil engineering contractor, on the construction of junior officers’ and junior ranks’ accommodation at Colchester Garrison.

The project was to design, build and operate for 35 years a modern garrison with living and working accommodation which is second to none.

Britspace manufactured and installed 35,000m² of the project in 1500 modules, which demonstrates that offsite construction is suitable for extremely large-scale projects as well.

A major benefit was the added security and quality control that modular construction brings to the project. All modules were built and decorated offsite, and the furniture for the unit installed at the factory.

Once finished, the units could be inspected before being sealed and transported to site for final installation.
